Fishing Lakes
Lough Derravaragh
Lough Derravaragh is located about 14 kms north west of Mullingar. Multifarnham village is in close proximity off its southern shore. This is a long narrow Lough nearly 5 miles (8 kms) in length and an area of over 2700 acres (1080 hectares).There is a good stock of Roach, Bream, Pike and trout to be found in the lake. . Lough Derravaragh is associated with the legend of the Children of Lir, who reputedly spent 300 years in isolation on its waters.
Lough Owel
A large trout lake (2500 acres) is situated 2.5 miles (4kms) North-West of Mullingar, off the N4. Road access is excellent with a slipway and mooring facilities at Tullaghan. There is also a gradual sloping shoreline and mooring facilities also at Mullally's Boat House to the south of the lakezLough Owel is heavily stocked throughout the season with the average size of TROUT caught weighing nearly 2lbs.
Lough Ennell
Lough Ennell is located 4 miles south of Mullingar; off the N52 road This Lake covers an area of 3200 acre (1,300 hectares). A feature of the lake is its huge area of shallow water. Nearly two-thirds of it is less than 25 feet and almost half is less than 10 feet deep. There is a good stock of wild brown TROUT averaging 2lbs. with 3 to 4 lbs frequently being taken. The Irish record for brown trout, which weighted 26lbs, was caught in Lough Ennell.
Cultural
Belvedere House and Gardens are a magnificent visitor attraction, located on the shores of Lough Ennell. With many visitor attractions laid out on the 160 acre parkland, this is a must see attraction in the Irish Midlands. Fore Trail
Starting at Mullingar, the principal town and administrative capital of Westmeath, this Trail takes the visitor on a tour into the north of the county. Just some of the attractions en route include; Tullynally Castle and Gardens at Castlepollard, the 700-year-old Franciscan Friary at Multyfarnham and Mullaghmeen State Forest - a natural amenity area and an ideal spot for walkers. The trip would not be complete without a visit to the village of Fore to see the Abbey and to discover the "Seven Wonders of Fore".

Kilbeggan Races
Horse racing at Kilbeggan has six evening meetings annually from May to September. These meetings attract thousands of people every year. For information on schedules for the races please click here. Other amenities include the Mullingar swimming pool located in the town park, the 700 year old Franciscan Friary at Multyfarnham, and the Royal Canal with its abundant coarse angling and pleasant surroundings and walkway.

Mullingar Town
Mullingar has many superb facilities such as shopping malls, retail parks, numerous café's and restaurants, and a public library in the centre of town. Mullingar's nightlife provides numerous pubs and clubs to choose from and all within walking distance from each other. A 6-sceen IMC Multiplex Cinema is located at Lakepoint Park. Cathedral of Christ the King is an architectural masterpiece and Mullingar Swimming Pool is open all year round. Other areas of interest are its two major lakes located approximately 4kms from the town. The lakes are surrounded by beautiful scenery and wild life. The lakes are famous for their trout fishing and are visited throughout the year by anglers. Boat hire and tackle shops are always close to the surrounding shores.
